IQOS ILUMA i Black

Midnight Black is the finish most ILUMA i buyers pick, and the reasoning is boring in the best way. It goes with anything, it never looks out of place in a meeting or at a table, and it hides the marks a year of pocket carry leaves on lighter devices.

It’s also the finish that makes the touch screen easiest to read. A dark holder means the display is the only thing your eye lands on, which matters more than it sounds on a device where the screen tells you how many sessions you have left.

Why black stays looking new longest

The five ILUMA i finishes are built identically and age differently.

Fingerprints, dust and the fine scuffs that come from sharing a pocket with keys are visible soonest on the light and warm colours. Vivid Terracotta and Breeze Blue show them first, Leaf Green falls in the middle, and Midnight Black hides them best of the five.

The second argument has nothing to do with wear: black is the finish nobody regrets receiving. If the device is a gift and you don’t know the person’s taste, this is the answer. Digital Violet is the opposite bet, chosen precisely because it stands out.

All five sit on the ILUMA i collection page.

What the device does

Four features define the ILUMA i generation, and this two-piece model carries all of them.

The touch screen on the holder shows preheating progress, session time remaining, and the number of uses left before charging.

Pause Mode stops a session and lets you resume within 8 minutes. It works only in Performance Mode and only in the first 3 minutes or 8 puffs, and using it drops you from three consecutive sessions to two.

FlexPuff reads your puff pattern early in a session and may extend it by up to four puffs, taking a stick from 14 to as many as 18. Philip Morris notes it depends on individual usage, so it won’t apply to everyone, and it never activates on a paused session.

FlexBattery is set in the IQOS app. Performance Mode gives three consecutive sessions; Eco Mode gives one at a time and extends the holder’s battery lifespan by up to a year.

Specifications

Sticks it takes, and one it never will

ILUMA i works with the SMARTCORE STICKS family: TEREA in every edition, plus LEVIA and DELIA. Compatibility depends on the metal element sealed inside the stick, not on which market printed the pack, so imported editions and Pearl capsule flavours behave exactly like local stock.

HEETS will never work. There’s no metal element inside them for induction to heat. Philip Morris also warns against using SMARTCORE STICKS in older IQOS generations, since it can damage those devices. Both directions are covered in HEETS in ILUMA and TEREA in IQOS 3 Duo, with the full model list in the device compatibility guide. HEETS users want the IQOS Originals range.

Which TEREA to pair with it

For a first device, Amber if you smoked full-flavour cigarettes, Yellow if you smoked lights, Turquoise if you smoked menthol.

We stock 75 flavours across five editions, and edition affects price far more than flavour. Kazakhstan sells most here, Armenia is the cheapest, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging. Why imported TEREA costs less explains the gap.

Care and warranty

Operating range is 0 to 40°C, which a parked car in an Abu Dhabi summer passes easily. Keep both parts out of direct sun; heat ages a lithium battery faster than use does.

There’s no cleaning at all, because induction means nothing inside the holder touches tobacco. Warranty terms vary by market, commonly 12 months on the holder and pocket charger.

Frequently asked questions

Does Midnight Black perform differently from the other colours?

No. Every ILUMA i shares the same battery, heating and features. The finish is the only variable.

Does black really hide marks better?

Noticeably. Fingerprints and scuffs are far less visible on a dark finish than on the terracotta, blue or green, which is why it’s the most common choice for daily carry.

Is it the same black as ILUMA i Prime?

The colour name is shared, but Prime is built in premium materials with a replaceable wrap and comes in a four-colour palette. Features and performance are identical between the two.

Are TEREA sticks included?

No. The kit contains the holder, pocket charger, cable, adapter and documentation. Sticks are ordered separately.

Can it use HEETS?

No. HEETS have no metal heating element, so induction has nothing to act on.
