ILUMA i One is the newest all-in-one device from Philip Morris, and it does something the older ILUMA One couldn’t: it starts heating by itself when you insert a stick, and it can extend a session past the usual fourteen puffs if your pace calls for it.

What ILUMA i One adds over ILUMA One

The two devices share a shape and a heating system, so the differences are in how they behave.

Autostart and autostop. ILUMA One needs a button held down to begin heating. ILUMA i One starts on its own the moment a stick goes in to the filter line, and stops if you remove the stick part-way. Small on paper, noticeable every single session.

FlexPuff. The device reads your puff pattern in the first three minutes or eight puffs and may extend the session by up to four extra puffs, so a session can run to eighteen rather than fourteen. It doesn’t trigger for everyone, since it depends on how you actually draw.

A bigger battery. 2700 mAh against the older model’s 1728 mAh, still giving 20 uses per charge but with more headroom.

What it does not add, and this is worth being clear about because the ILUMA i name suggests otherwise: ILUMA i One has no touch screen and no Pause Mode. Those belong to ILUMA i Standard and ILUMA i Prime, the two-piece models in the range. It also can’t do consecutive uses, because as an all-in-one there’s no separate holder to recharge between sticks.

How FlexPuff actually works

This is the headline feature of the ILUMA i generation and it’s widely misunderstood, so here’s the honest version.

During the first three minutes or first eight puffs of a session, the device monitors how you’re drawing. If your pattern suggests you’d benefit from a longer session, it extends it by up to four puffs. A normal session is up to 14 puffs or six minutes; with FlexPuff active it can reach 18.

Two caveats matter. FlexPuff activates based on individual usage patterns, so it may not trigger for every user or every session. And it’s genuinely useful for people who take slower, shorter draws and often find a stick ending before they’re done, which is exactly the group that complained about fixed session lengths on older devices.

ILUMA i One or the two-piece models

The ILUMA i range comes in three shapes, and the split is the same as the older generation.

ILUMA i One is the all-in-one. Simplest and lightest, with autostart and FlexPuff but no touch screen and no Pause Mode. Charges from a wall when it runs down.

ILUMA i Standard is the two-piece system with a holder and pocket charger, adding a touch screen showing preheating status and remaining uses, Pause Mode for interrupting a session for up to 8 minutes, FlexBattery with Performance and Eco modes, and up to three consecutive uses.

If you want the simplest device and don’t care about session-pausing or a screen, ILUMA i One is the right buy and the cheapest way into this generation. If those features appeal, the two-piece models are where they live.

Worth knowing before you decide: the older ILUMA range heats identically and costs less. The five colours

All five are the same device with identical specifications, so the choice is visual.

Midnight Black is the safe choice and the finish that hides marks best. Breeze Blue is the cool option and generally the best seller in this range. Terracotta Brown is the warm earthy one. Leaf Green is muted rather than vivid. Digital Violet is the most distinctive of the five.

Setting it up

Charge it fully before the first use, which takes about 90 minutes over USB-C. Press and hold the button for four seconds to turn the device on.

Slide the cap open, insert a TEREA stick up to the filter line without twisting. Heating starts automatically, or press the button for one second to trigger it manually. A second vibration means the session is ready. Draw normally for up to 14 puffs or six minutes, plus any extra puffs FlexPuff adds. The status light shows remaining time and the device vibrates once near the end. Slide the used stick out and close the cap.

Why there’s nothing to clean

Older IQOS devices used a ceramic blade that pushed into the tobacco stick, collected residue and needed regular cleaning.

ILUMA i One has no blade. The Smartcore Induction System heats a metal element sealed inside each TEREA stick using a magnetic field, so nothing inside the device ever touches tobacco. Used sticks come out whole, nothing accumulates, and there’s no cleaning routine at all. How TEREA sticks work explains the mechanism.

The same design is why it takes TEREA and nothing else. HEETS contain no metal element for induction to heat, and TEREA won’t heat in an IQOS 3 Duo or any other blade device. Sticks to buy with it

We stock all 75 TEREA flavors across five editions. For a first device, Amber suits full-flavor cigarette smokers, Yellow suits light smokers, and Turquoise suits menthol smokers.

Edition affects price more than taste. Most of our customers buy the Kazakhstan range, on cost and for its five Pearl capsule flavors. Armenia is cheaper with a shorter lineup, Japan and Indonesia carry exclusives nobody else has, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging at RRP. Care in the UAE

Heat shortens lithium battery life faster than use does, and a parked car through an Abu Dhabi summer is the worst place to leave any device. Keep it out of direct sun and off dashboards.

Use the supplied USB-C cable, avoid using the device while it’s charging, and there’s nothing else to maintain. No cleaning, no consumable parts.
