IQOS ILUMA i Brown

Philip Morris calls this one Vivid Terracotta, and the name is doing real work. It isn’t brown in the way electronics are usually brown, which is to say beige pretending to be neutral. It’s an earth tone with orange in it, closer to fired clay than to anything you’d normally find on a device.

That makes it the most unusual finish in the ILUMA i palette, and the one that looks least like a gadget. It stands out without being loud, which is a narrow gap that most product colours miss entirely.

Warm, in a range that isn’t

Line the five up and the split is immediate.

Midnight Black is neutral. Breeze Blue is cool and the series signature. Leaf Green is cool-leaning and muted. Digital Violet is the bold one. Vivid Terracotta is the only warm tone in the set.

If cool colours have never appealed to you, or if black feels like giving up on the decision, this is the finish that solves it. It reads as chosen rather than defaulted to.

The trade-off is the one every warm and pale finish carries: fingerprints and small scuffs appear sooner on it than on a dark body over a year of pocket use, and Midnight Black is the most forgiving of the five. All of them are on the ILUMA i collection page.

Worth noting that Prime doesn’t carry this colour. The ILUMA i Prime palette swaps Vivid Terracotta and Leaf Green for Aspen Green and Garnet Red, so if terracotta is what you want, this model is where it exists.

What you’re actually buying

A two-piece system: a 31 gram holder that runs each session, and a 134 gram pocket charger that refills it between sticks. That’s what lets the device go a full day without a wall socket, and it’s the main structural difference from the all-in-one ILUMA i One.

The holder carries a touch screen showing preheating progress, time left in the session, and how many uses remain before charging. Pause Mode lets you stop and resume within 8 minutes, working only in Performance Mode and only during the first 3 minutes or 8 puffs, and costing you one of your three consecutive sessions when you use it.

FlexPuff can add up to four puffs to a session, taking a stick from 14 to as many as 18, though Philip Morris is clear that activation depends on individual usage patterns and that it won’t run on a paused session.

FlexBattery, set in the IQOS app, switches between Performance Mode for three consecutive sessions and Eco Mode for one at a time with up to a year of extra holder battery life.

SMARTCORE STICKS across the board: TEREA in all five editions, plus LEVIA and DELIA. The metal element inside the stick is what makes it work, not the market it was printed for, so imported packs and Pearl capsule flavours are no different from local stock.

HEETS are the permanent exception, with no metal element for induction to heat. And Philip Morris warns specifically against using SMARTCORE STICKS in earlier IQOS generations, which can damage those devices. There’s also a safety note on the sticks themselves: they contain a sharp metal part, so they shouldn’t be swallowed or taken apart, and they need keeping away from children.

Flavours to start with

Amber coming from full-flavour cigarettes, Yellow from lights, Turquoise from menthols.

After that, the edition you buy changes the price more than the taste. Kazakhstan leads on cost and Pearl capsules, Armenia is cheaper again, Japan and Indonesia carry market exclusives, and the UAE edition is the official local product. Why imported TEREA costs less sets out the reasoning.

Care

Stated operating range is 0 to 40°C. An Abu Dhabi car in summer goes past that comfortably, and heat is harder on a lithium battery than heavy use, so keep both parts out of parked cars and direct sun.

Nothing needs cleaning inside, since induction keeps tobacco out of the holder entirely. Warranty is typically 12 months on holder and charger, though terms vary by market.

Is Vivid Terracotta brown or orange?

Both, in a sense. It’s an earth tone combining orange and brown influences, closer to fired clay than to a conventional brown, which is what makes it stand out among electronics finishes.

Is it available on ILUMA i Prime?

No. The Prime palette carries Breeze Blue, Aspen Green, Garnet Red and Midnight Black. Vivid Terracotta is specific to ILUMA i and ILUMA i One.

Does it perform differently from the other colours?

No. All five ILUMA i finishes share the same battery, heating system and features.

Does the warm finish mark easily?

Warm and pale finishes show fingerprints and scuffs sooner than dark ones over long-term pocket use. Midnight Black is the most forgiving of the five if that concerns you.

Can it use HEETS?

No. HEETS contain no metal heating element, so induction has nothing to heat.
