IQOS ILUMA One Device

ILUMA ONE is the only all-in-one device Philip Morris makes in the ILUMA range, and the most affordable way into it. No separate holder, no pocket charger, no case to reunite when you’ve left one at home. You slide the cap open, insert a stick, hold the button for a second, and use it.

The body is anodised aluminium, it weighs 68.5 grams, and it gives up to 20 consecutive uses per charge, which is a full pack of sticks before it needs a socket.

What “all-in-one” actually means day to day

Every other ILUMA device is a two-piece system: a holder for the session, a pocket charger that refills it between sticks. ILUMA ONE collapses both into a single unit.

The practical effect is that there’s one object in your pocket instead of two, and nothing to charge mid-day. The trade-off is that when it’s empty it needs a plug rather than a pocket charger, so twenty sticks is genuinely your ceiling until you’re near a socket.

Philip Morris also gave this device its own accessory line for exactly that reason: because it’s a single body rather than a holder in a case, it takes silicone sleeves and knitted fabric sleeves that no other ILUMA device uses. It’s the most personalisable device in the range and the easiest to tell apart from someone else’s.

Specifications

One thing worth knowing before the box arrives: in most markets the AC power adaptor is not included, only the USB-C cable. Any phone charger will do the job.

What it doesn’t have

Being straight about this saves disappointment.

ILUMA ONE has no autostart. You press and hold the button for at least a second until it vibrates, where ILUMA Standard and ILUMA Prime begin heating the moment a stick goes in.

It also has no consecutive-use system in the sense the two-piece models have, because there’s no charger refilling a holder between sticks. Twenty uses come from one battery, one session at a time.

And it isn’t part of the newer ILUMA i generation, so there’s no touch screen, no Pause Mode, no FlexPuff and no FlexBattery. If those appeal, ILUMA i ONE is the all-in-one in that range and adds autostart and FlexPuff, though not the screen or Pause Mode either.

What ILUMA ONE does have is the same SMARTCORE induction heating as every other device in both generations. The tobacco experience is identical. You’re paying less for fewer conveniences, not for a lesser session.

Why no cleaning is the headline feature

Every IQOS device before ILUMA used a ceramic blade that slid into the tobacco stick. Residue built up on it, cleaning was a regular chore with sticks and cotton buds, and the blade could snap if you twisted a stick on the way out.

SMARTCORE induction heats a metal element sealed inside each stick using a magnetic field. Nothing inside the device ever touches tobacco. No residue collects, there’s no blade to break, and there is no cleaning routine at all. Used sticks come out whole.

That single change is why most people upgrading from an IQOS 3 Duo say the device feels newer than the spec sheet suggests. How TEREA sticks work explains the mechanism.

Sticks: what fits and what will damage things

ILUMA ONE takes SMARTCORE STICKS, which means TEREA and DELIA. Compatibility comes from the metal element inside the stick rather than the market that printed the pack, so every TEREA edition we carry works, including the Pearl capsule flavours.

HEETS will not work. There’s no metal element inside them for induction to heat.

Philip Morris also warns against the reverse: do not use SMARTCORE STICKS in previous IQOS generations or lil devices, as it can damage them. A safety note that belongs on every ILUMA page: SMARTCORE STICKS contain a sharp metal part. They shouldn’t be swallowed or taken apart, and they need keeping away from children.

The five colours

Identical devices, five anodised aluminium finishes.

Azure Blue is the cool option and our best seller. Pebble Grey is the cool neutral and the finish that shows marks least. Pebble Beige is the warm neutral. Moss Green is the muted, understated colour. Sunset Red is the bold one, and the easiest to pick out if others around you own IQOS devices.

Note that these are ILUMA ONE names specifically. The newer ILUMA i ONE uses an entirely different palette: Midnight Black, Breeze Blue, Leaf Green, Digital Violet and Vivid Terracotta.

First charge and first session

Charge it fully before the first use, roughly 90 minutes over USB-C. If the battery arrived deeply depleted it can take up to 20 minutes before the first indicator light appears, which is normal rather than a fault.

To run a session: slide the cap open, insert a stick up to the filter line without twisting, then press and hold the button for at least one second until the device vibrates and the light flashes. A second vibration means it’s ready. Draw normally for up to 14 puffs or about six minutes, then slide the used stick out and close the cap.

Which sticks to order with it

The device does nothing without sticks, so most first orders include a pack or two.

Three flavours cover most people switching: Amber from full-flavour cigarettes, Yellow from lights, Turquoise from menthols.

Beyond that, the edition you buy changes your price far more than your taste. One storage tip that matters more here than most places: an opened pack is best used within about three days, or up to two weeks if you keep it in an airtight bag. In Abu Dhabi humidity and heat, that window is worth respecting.

Care in the UAE

Heat is what shortens a lithium battery, and a dashboard through an Abu Dhabi summer is the worst place to leave any device. Keep it out of parked cars and direct sun.

Two smaller habits: avoid using it while it’s charging, and use a decent USB-C cable rather than the cheapest one to hand. Beyond that there’s nothing to maintain, because there’s nothing inside to clean.

Frequently asked questions

How many sticks does one charge give?

Up to 20 consecutive uses, which is a full pack. Charging takes about 90 minutes over USB-C from a 1728 mAh battery.

Is a power adaptor included?

In most markets, no. The kit includes the device and a USB-C cable, and any standard phone adaptor works.

Does it start heating automatically?

No. Press and hold the button for at least a second until it vibrates. Autostart belongs to ILUMA Standard, ILUMA Prime and the ILUMA i range.

Does it need cleaning?

No, and that’s the point of the ILUMA generation. There’s no blade, so no tobacco residue collects inside and there’s no cleaning routine at all.

Can I use HEETS in it?

No. HEETS contain no metal heating element, so induction has nothing to heat. It takes SMARTCORE STICKS: TEREA and DELIA.

Can I use TEREA in my old IQOS 3 Duo?

No, and Philip Morris warns against trying. SMARTCORE STICKS aren’t designed for previous IQOS generations or lil devices and can damage them.

ILUMA ONE or ILUMA i ONE?

Both are all-in-one devices with the same heating. ILUMA i ONE adds autostart and FlexPuff and a larger battery, at a higher price. Neither has a touch screen or Pause Mode; those are on the two-piece models.

What’s the warranty?

12 months from the date of purchase, with the receipt serving as the warranty certificate. Registering the device with IQOS is usually required to activate full cover.
