The Lambda i9 is a third-party induction device for TEREA sticks, and it exists for one reason: it does things official IQOS hardware doesn’t. Adjustable temperature between 200 and 300°C, adjustable session length between 3 and 6 minutes, an OLED screen, an automatic cleaning cycle, and a 3200 mAh battery giving up to 40 sessions per charge.

For context, that battery is roughly double what an IQOS ILUMA i pocket charger holds. If charging interruptions annoy you, that number alone explains why people buy Lambda.

What temperature control actually changes

This is the feature that separates Lambda from official devices, and it’s worth understanding rather than treating as a spec-sheet number.

IQOS devices run a fixed heating profile. Lambda lets you set anywhere from 200 to 300°C, and the difference is real. Lower temperatures give a lighter, cleaner draw with the delicate aromas more visible, which suits Silver with its spicy-herb notes or a light citrus flavor like Yellow. Higher temperatures give a fuller, denser vapour that brings out body in the tobacco flavors, which is where Amber and Sienna come alive.

Session length works the same way. Three minutes for a quick session, six for a full one, rather than the fixed six-minute cycle on IQOS hardware.

If you only ever smoke one flavor and never think about it, none of this matters. If you rotate across editions and notice differences between them, it’s the reason to choose Lambda over an official device.

The self-cleaning cycle

The i9 carries an automatic cleaning function, which sounds like marketing until you know what it’s for.

Induction devices don’t accumulate tobacco residue the way blade devices did, since nothing inside touches the tobacco. What can build up over months is a light film in the chamber, particularly if you use sweeter flavors or the Pearl capsule range frequently. The cycle heats the chamber to burn that off.

It’s a convenience feature rather than a necessity, and it’s one of the reasons the i9 sits above the Lambda i8 in the range.

Where Lambda wins. Battery capacity is roughly double, giving up to 40 sessions against around 20. Temperature and session length are adjustable, where IQOS is fixed. The OLED display shows more than an IQOS status light does. And it typically costs less than an official device of comparable capability.

Where IQOS wins. It’s Philip Morris hardware with a manufacturer warranty behind it, currently 24 months on ILUMA i. Lambda carries no PMI warranty at all, so whatever cover you get comes from the retailer. Official devices also get firmware and ecosystem support through the IQOS app, which Lambda has no equivalent of.

Where they’re equal. Both use induction heating on the metal element inside a TEREA stick, so the fundamental mechanism is identical and any TEREA edition works in either. Neither needs the blade-cleaning routine that older IQOS devices required.

Where the i9 sits in the Lambda range

Five Lambda models, and they don’t all do the same thing. This matters more than it does with IQOS.

Lambda i8 is the established induction model: same 3200 mAh battery, same 200 to 300°C range, same TEREA compatibility, at a lower price. The value pick.

Lambda i9 adds the OLED display and the self-cleaning cycle.

Lambda i10 is the newest, in a leather-finished body and lighter at 80g.

Lambda T3 and Lambda CC are blade devices for HEETS, not induction devices for TEREA. They will not heat a TEREA stick, and this catches people out because they share the Lambda name. Check which you’re buying.

The six colours

Identical devices, different finishes.

Black is the classic and hides marks best. Silver and Grey are the neutral metallics, silver brighter and grey more subdued. Gold is the warm metallic and the most eye-catching of the three. Green is the muted, understated colour option. Red is the bold one.

Setting it up

Charge it fully before first use over USB-C. Insert a TEREA stick into the chamber up to the filter line without twisting, then start heating. The OLED shows preheating progress, and once ready you draw normally for your chosen session length.

Set temperature and session time through the device controls. A sensible starting point is the middle of the range, then adjust: raise the temperature if a flavor feels thin, lower it if it feels harsh or you want the aroma clearer.

What it can and cannot heat

The i9 heats TEREA sticks and other Smartcore sticks that carry an internal metal element. Every TEREA edition works in it, since compatibility comes from the induction mechanism rather than from the flavor or the market a pack was made for.

It cannot heat HEETS. HEETS have no metal element inside, so induction has nothing to work on. If HEETS are what you use, the blade-based Lambda T3 and CC or the IQOS Originals range are what you need instead. Sticks to buy with it

For a first device, Amber suits full-flavor cigarette smokers, Yellow suits light smokers, and Turquoise suits menthol smokers.

Edition affects price more than taste. Most customers buy the Kazakhstan range, on cost and for its five Pearl capsule flavors. Armenia is cheaper with a shorter lineup, Japan and Indonesia carry exclusives, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging. Care in the UAE

Heat shortens lithium battery life faster than use does, and a 3200 mAh battery in a parked car through an Abu Dhabi summer will degrade sooner than one kept indoors. Keep it out of direct sun.

Use the supplied USB-C cable, avoid using the device while it’s charging, and run the self-cleaning cycle occasionally rather than constantly.
