Scarlet is the bold red in the ORIGINALS DUO range, and the finish that makes the most of what this device was designed for: customisation.

ORIGINALS DUO is the most personalisable device Philip Morris has built. Beyond the four body colours there are caps, doors and sleeves in a wide range of finishes, and the combinations run into the hundreds. Starting from a red body rather than a neutral one changes what those accessories do, since you’re building around a colour rather than adding one.

Building a setup around it

The accessory system is the reason a lot of owners stayed with this device after ILUMA arrived, and it’s worth understanding before you pick a body colour.

Caps and doors change the top and front of the pocket charger. Sleeves wrap the body. Because all three swap independently, a Scarlet device can be dressed to look completely different from another Scarlet device, and none of the newer ILUMA models offer anything close to that range.

A neutral body like Silver or Slate accepts almost any accessory colour. A red one narrows the palette but gives a stronger starting point. Which approach suits you is a taste question rather than a right answer.

There’s a practical benefit too: in a household where more than one person uses IQOS, a red device is never picked up by mistake. The silver and slate holders look alike at arm’s length.

How it heats

HEATCONTROL technology, working through a flat, wide ceramic blade carrying platinum and gold tracks. The blade slides into a HEETS stick so its full surface contacts the tobacco, heating from within.

The wide contact area is what gives the draw its cigarette-like character, and it’s also why the blade sits inside the tobacco every session. That makes cleaning part of ownership and makes the blade the component most likely to fail.

Pull sticks straight out rather than twisting them. Twisting is how ceramic blades crack, and a cracked blade ends the device.

Sticks it takes

HEETS and other blade-compatible sticks. Not TEREA, which carries a metal element built for induction heating.

If you’re considering TEREA, you’d need an IQOS ILUMA, ILUMA i or a Lambda induction device. The switch also removes cleaning entirely and opens up 75 flavours across five TEREA editions. The four finishes

Keeping it right

Keep both parts out of parked cars through summer. Heat ages the battery faster than use, and the pocket charger reports a temperature error when it’s been left somewhere too hot.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the look of a Scarlet device?

Yes. Caps, doors and sleeves all swap independently, so the same body can be dressed several different ways. ORIGINALS DUO has the widest accessory range of any IQOS device.

Does a red body limit my accessory choices?

It narrows the palette compared with a neutral body, but it gives a stronger base to build on. Silver and Slate are the more flexible starting points if you plan to change accessories often.

Does colour affect performance?

No. All four ORIGINALS DUO finishes share the same blade, battery and features.

Can it heat TEREA?

No. TEREA needs induction heating; this is a blade device for HEETS.

How many sticks back to back?

Two from the holder, then a short recharge in the pocket charger, which holds enough for around 20 uses in total.
