Silver is the finish that looks most like the device people remember. When this was the IQOS 3 DUO, silver was how it appeared in almost every photograph of it, and buying it in this colour is the closest thing to buying the original.

That matters more than nostalgia. Silver is the neutral that reads as a piece of considered hardware rather than a coloured accessory, which suits a device whose whole design language came out of Switzerland with that intention.

Renamed, not redesigned

Worth clearing up if you’ve been away from the range for a while: IQOS ORIGINALS DUO is the same device as the IQOS 3 DUO. Philip Morris renamed the line when ILUMA launched, keeping the form identical and adding new colour options and a broader accessory range.

Nothing about the heating or the two-piece system changed. If you owned a 3 DUO and liked it, this is that device with a different badge and more finishes to pick from.

There’s also an upgrade path worth knowing about. Philip Morris positions ORIGINALS DUO as the natural step for existing IQOS 2.4+ owners: the same familiar form, with two consecutive uses from the holder and faster charging than the older model managed.

How it heats

HEATCONTROL technology, built around a flat, wide ceramic blade carrying platinum and gold tracks.

The blade slides into a HEETS stick so its full surface meets the tobacco, heating from the inside out. The broad contact area is deliberate: it gives an even draw closer to a cigarette than a narrow element would.

The consequence is that the blade lives inside the tobacco every session, which is why cleaning is part of owning one and why the blade is the part most likely to fail.

What it will not heat

TEREA. That’s not a limitation of this colour or this model but of blade heating itself: TEREA carries a metal element built for induction, and pushing a ceramic blade into one damages the stick and risks the blade.

The four finishes

Silver is the classic. Slate is the dark neutral that hides marks best. Scarlet is the bold red, and Turquoise is the most distinctive. All four sit on the IQOS ORIGINALS DUO collection page.

One practical note on this finish specifically: light metallics show fingerprints sooner than dark ones. Slate is the more forgiving choice if a device that always looks clean matters to you more than the classic look.

Looking after it

Pull sticks straight out rather than twisting them. Twisting is how ceramic blades break, and a broken blade means a new device.

Keep both parts out of parked cars in summer. Heat ages the battery faster than use does, and the pocket charger will show a temperature error if it’s been left somewhere too hot.
