Slate is the dark neutral in the ORIGINALS DUO range, and the most practical finish of the four on a device you’ll be handling constantly.

That last part is the argument. A blade device gets more handling than an induction one: sticks in and out, cleaning sessions, the holder moving between hand and pocket charger several times a day. Fingerprints and small scuffs accumulate faster here than on an ILUMA, and Slate hides them better than any other finish in the range.

Reading the lights

The indicator system on this device tells you more than most owners use, and Slate happens to be the finish where the lights read most clearly against the body.

Press and release the holder button to check charge: two lights means two uses available, one light means one, no lights means empty. The same check works through the pocket charger by inserting the holder the right way up and pressing its button.

White lights mean normal operations. Charging, resetting, ready to use, fully charged, or the pocket charger sitting outside its temperature range.

Red lights mean an error, and the list is worth knowing: a reset is needed, the holder has malfunctioned, the blade is broken, or the device is outside its operational temperature range.

In Abu Dhabi the temperature error is the one you’ll meet most, and it almost always means the device spent time in a hot car. Let it cool and it returns to normal. A broken blade doesn’t recover, and it’s the reason the handling advice below matters.

The blade, and how not to break it

HEATCONTROL heats through a flat ceramic blade with platinum and gold tracks, which slides into a HEETS stick so its whole surface contacts the tobacco. Broad contact is what gives the draw its cigarette-like character.

Ceramic is also brittle. Twisting a stick while pulling it free is how these blades crack, and a cracked blade shows as a red light and ends the device rather than damaging it. Pull sticks straight out, every time.

If blade durability is a real concern for you, the third-party Lambda T3 and Lambda CC use titanium steel alloy blades that don’t fail this way, though they carry no Philip Morris warranty.

Sticks

HEETS and compatible blade sticks. Not TEREA, which uses a metal element built for induction rather than a blade.

The four finishes

Slate is the dark neutral and the most forgiving on marks. Silver is the classic finish from the device’s IQOS 3 DUO days. Scarlet is the bold red, and Turquoise is the most distinctive. All four are on the IQOS ORIGINALS DUO collection page.

Cleaning

Not optional on a blade device. Residue collects from the first session because the blade is inside the tobacco throughout.

This is the single biggest difference between blade and induction ownership. Induction devices never need cleaning at all, because nothing inside them touches tobacco, as explained in how TEREA sticks work.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Slate suit this device particularly?

Blade devices get handled more than induction ones, between stick changes and regular cleaning. Dark finishes hide the resulting fingerprints and scuffs better, and Slate is the darkest of the four.

What does a red light mean?

An error: a reset needed, a holder malfunction, a broken blade, or the device being outside its operating temperature range. White lights indicate normal operation.

My device shows a temperature error. Is it damaged?

Usually not. It means the device is outside its operating range, which in the UAE almost always means it was left somewhere hot. Let it cool and it should work normally.

How do I avoid breaking the blade?

Pull sticks straight out without twisting. Twisting is the main cause of cracked ceramic blades, and a cracked blade cannot be repaired.

Does colour affect performance?

No. All four finishes share identical hardware.
