Scarlet is the bold finish in the ORIGINALS ONE range, and on a mono device it works differently than it does on a two-piece one.

With ORIGINALS DUO you’re colouring a system: a holder that sits inside a charger, both visible at different moments. ORIGINALS ONE is a single object that’s either in your pocket or in your hand, so the colour is either hidden or fully on show. A red one is a straightforward decision in a way it isn’t on the two-piece device.

Why people choose the red one

Two reasons come up, and the second is more practical than it sounds.

The first is simply wanting a device that looks chosen. ORIGINALS ONE has a deliberately plain shape, and a neutral finish leans into that. Scarlet pushes the other way.

The second is identification. In a household or office where more than one person uses IQOS, the silver and slate bodies are hard to tell apart at a glance, and picking up someone else’s is a routine annoyance. This is a mono device, so there’s no holder to distinguish either. A red body solves it permanently.

What the device does

Up to 20 experiences on one full charge, including three consecutive uses back to back, which is one more than the two-piece ORIGINALS DUO manages from its holder.

Charging takes roughly 90 minutes, making it the fastest device in the IQOS ORIGINALS range. DUO takes around 120.

Four status LEDs on the body handle battery level and, during a session, count down the time remaining. The device vibrates once with one light pulsing white at the last 30 seconds or last two puffs, so nothing ends abruptly.

The heating system

HEATCONTROL technology, built around a flat, wide ceramic blade carrying platinum and gold tracks. The blade slides into a HEETS stick so its whole surface contacts the tobacco, heating it from the inside out.

That broad contact is what gives the ORIGINALS line its cigarette-like draw. It also means the blade sits inside the tobacco for every session, which makes daily cleaning necessary and makes the blade the most fragile part of the device.

Pull sticks straight out rather than twisting. Twisting cracks ceramic blades, and a cracked blade ends the device.

Sticks

HEETS and other blade-compatible sticks only. TEREA carries a metal element built for induction heating and will not work here.

Daily maintenance

Philip Morris recommends cleaning this device daily, and on a blade device that’s genuine rather than cautious advice.

Let it cool, slide the cap upwards and remove it completely, then use the rotating head of the IQOS Dual Cleaning Tool with a gentle turn, followed by the sweeping head moved side to side. Never use a cleaning agent, and never let the device contact water.

Care in the UAE

The user guide names cars in summer explicitly as somewhere not to use, charge or store the device, which in Abu Dhabi makes it a daily consideration rather than an occasional one.

Operating range is 0 to 40°C, and a blinking red light usually means the device is outside it. Let it cool before using it again. Charge only with the supplied adaptor and only indoors.

Does the red finish perform differently?

No. All four ORIGINALS ONE colours share identical hardware.

Does a bold finish show marks more?

It shows them sooner than Slate does, though less obviously than a bright metallic would. Slate is the most forgiving of the four over daily handling.

How many sticks back to back?

Three, one more than the two-piece ORIGINALS DUO manages from its holder. Twenty uses in total per charge.

Is it faster to charge than the DUO?

Yes. Roughly 90 minutes against about 120 for ORIGINALS DUO.

Can it use TEREA?

No. TEREA needs induction heating and this is a ceramic blade device.
