Silver is the neutral finish in the ORIGINALS ONE range and the one that suits the device’s design intent most closely. This is a mono device with no holder-and-charger split, deliberately plain in shape, and a silver body reads as the piece of engineering it is rather than as an accessory.

It’s also the safest pick if you’re buying for someone else or replacing a device you already know you liked.

Where this device came from

If the shape looks familiar from years back, that’s not a coincidence. ORIGINALS ONE is the successor to the IQOS 3 MULTI, the first IQOS device to abandon the traditional two-piece format.

What changed between them is substantial. The battery roughly doubled, taking the device from 10 uses per charge to 20. The cap slides open more easily than MULTI’s did. The power button on the body is larger and does more work, handling battery checks as well as starting sessions. And the status indicator gained a genuinely useful function: it counts down how much of your current session remains, not just how much charge you have left.

Anyone who used a MULTI and gave up on it because of the battery will find this a different proposition.

Three consecutive uses, from one body

The counterintuitive part of this device, and worth knowing before you compare it against the two-piece option.

ORIGINALS ONE gives three sessions back to back. The two-piece ORIGINALS DUO gives two from its holder before it needs time in the pocket charger.

Where DUO pulls ahead is across a whole day, since its charger keeps refilling the holder while you’re out. ORIGINALS ONE gives you 20 uses and then wants a wall socket. Which matters more depends entirely on your day.

How it heats

HEATCONTROL technology, running through a flat, wide ceramic blade with platinum and gold tracks. The blade slides into the HEETS stick so its full surface meets the tobacco, heating from the inside out.

The width of the blade is the point. Broad contact spreads heat evenly through the stick, which is what gives the ORIGINALS line its cigarette-like draw. A narrow element wouldn’t manage it.

The trade-off is that the blade lives inside the tobacco every session, so residue accumulates and the blade is the part most likely to fail. Pull sticks straight out rather than twisting them; twisting cracks ceramic, and a cracked blade ends the device.

About this finish specifically

Silver shows fingerprints sooner than Slate does, which is worth knowing on a device that gets daily cleaning and constant handling. It wipes clean easily enough, but if you want a device that always looks untouched, Slate is the more forgiving choice.

Sticks

HEETS and other blade-compatible sticks. Not TEREA, which carries a metal element built for induction rather than for a blade.

Daily care

Philip Morris recommends cleaning this device daily. On a blade device that’s a real requirement rather than a suggestion, because residue starts accumulating from the first session.

Let the device cool, slide the cap upwards and remove it, then use the rotating head of the IQOS Dual Cleaning Tool with a gentle turn, followed by the sweeping head moved side to side. Never use a cleaning agent on it, and never let it contact water.

Keep it out of parked cars through summer. The user guide names cars in summer specifically as somewhere not to use, charge or store the device, and in Abu Dhabi that’s a daily consideration.
