Garnet Red is the boldest finish in the ILUMA i Prime range, and the one that best suits what Prime is trying to be. A deep, saturated red against the leather-effect texture of the wrap, it reads as rich rather than loud, closer to a burgundy than to anything primary.

Who buys the red one

Two reasons, and neither is purely visual.

The first is that Prime is a premium object and some buyers want it to look like one. Midnight Black is deliberately anonymous, and Garnet Red is its opposite: a device that looks chosen rather than issued.

The second is identification. If other people around you use IQOS, the black and blue finishes are hard to tell apart at arm’s length, and picking up someone else’s holder by mistake is a common irritation. A red one ends that.

If neither applies, the quieter finishes are Midnight Black as the neutral that hides marks best, Breeze Blue as the cool middle ground and best seller, and Aspen Green as the muted natural option.

One thing in this finish’s favour on wear: being a deep tone rather than a pale one, it holds up better against everyday scuffs than the lighter covers do, though Midnight Black is still the most forgiving of the four. All of them sit together on the ILUMA i Prime collection page.

What’s in the kit

ILUMA i Prime is a two-piece system, so the box carries more than an all-in-one device.

Inside: the ILUMA i Prime holder, the pocket charger with its leather-effect wrap already fitted, a USB-C charging cable, a power adapter, and the documentation with warranty details. The device warranty runs 24 months.

TEREA sticks are sold separately, and the device does nothing without them, so most orders include a pack or two.

No cleaning kit is included, and that’s by design. ILUMA has no blade and never needs cleaning inside.

The wrap comes off

Worth knowing before you settle on any finish: the leather-effect wrap around the pocket charger is replaceable.

It attaches with linear magnets seated in recesses on the charger body and pulls away from the top down. So whichever colour you buy today isn’t a permanent decision, and ILUMA i Prime is the only device in the current range where changing the finish is possible at all.

Wraps aren’t covered by the device warranty, and a damp cloth is all they need for cleaning.

The features

Touch screen. The holder shows preheating progress, time left in the session, and how many uses remain before charging. The counter drops to a dash after the second session and to zero when the holder is empty.

Pause Mode. Scroll down the screen to pause, then resume within 8 minutes or the session ends. It works only in Performance Mode and only during the first 3 minutes or 8 puffs, and using it drops you from three consecutive sessions to two.

FlexPuff. The device reads your puff pattern over the first three minutes or eight puffs and may extend a session by up to four extra puffs, taking a stick from 14 to as many as 18. It won’t trigger for everyone, and it doesn’t run on a paused session, so pause and FlexPuff are an either-or within a single stick.

FlexBattery. Set in the IQOS app. Performance Mode is the default and gives three consecutive sessions without pause, or two with. Eco Mode limits you to one session at a time and extends the holder’s battery lifespan by up to a year. Pause Mode needs Performance Mode, so Eco disables it.

Feature for feature this matches the standard ILUMA i, which costs less in a plastic body. ILUMA i One is the all-in-one with autostart and FlexPuff but no screen or Pause Mode. One practical note: an ILUMA i Prime holder charges in an ILUMA Prime pocket charger and the other way round, which helps if you own both generations or keep a spare charger.

Using it

Charge the pocket charger fully before the first session, about 2 hours 15 minutes over USB-C, and hold the charger button for four seconds to switch on.

Slide the door open, take the holder out, and insert a TEREA stick to the line on the filter. Heating starts automatically and the screen shows preheating progress. When it completes, draw normally for up to six minutes or 14 puffs plus any FlexPuff extension. Remove the used stick and return the holder to the charger.

To pause, scroll down the touch screen; two short vertical LEDs at the top confirm it. FlexBattery modes change in the IQOS app, and if the holder needs resetting, place it in the charger and hold the charger button for 10 seconds.

Nothing to clean inside

Older IQOS devices heated the stick with a ceramic blade that collected residue and needed regular cleaning.

There’s no blade here. Smartcore induction heats a metal element sealed inside each TEREA stick with a magnetic field, so nothing inside the holder touches tobacco. Sticks come out whole and nothing accumulates. How TEREA sticks work explains the system.

Sticks to order with it

We stock all 75 TEREA flavors across five editions. For a first device, Amber suits full-flavor cigarette smokers, Yellow suits light smokers, and Turquoise suits menthol smokers.

Edition affects price more than taste. Most customers buy the Kazakhstan range, on cost and for its five Pearl capsule flavors. Armenia is cheaper with a shorter lineup, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging at RRP. Care in the UAE

The operating range is 0 to 40°C, which a parked car here passes easily in summer. Heat shortens lithium battery life generally, so keep both parts out of direct sun.

Use the supplied cable and adapter, avoid running the holder while the charger is plugged in, and wipe the wrap with a damp cloth when needed. Eco Mode in the IQOS app is the setting that extends holder battery lifespan if that matters to you.
