About the flavor

Philip Morris describes it as a tobacco blend enhanced with ripe fruit and floral aromas coupled with fresh sensations, and each of those three elements is doing real work.

The hierarchy runs floral first, fruit second, tobacco third, with a cooling freshness woven through the finish rather than sitting on top as menthol. The floral element is lavender and jasmine tea, delicate rather than perfumed, and the fruit reads as pear: soft, juicy sweetness rather than sharp citrus. Underneath, the tobacco base is smooth and more present than in the creamier Apricity, which keeps the whole thing anchored rather than letting it float off into a scented candle.

The session evolves more than most. The opening draws lead with the smooth tobacco and the first floral hints. Through the middle the lavender and jasmine come properly forward and the pear sweetness fills in behind them, which is the most layered part of the stick. The final third turns fresher and cleaner as the cooling sensation takes over, finishing smooth and short rather than lingering. Fourteen puffs at 0.5mg nicotine, light-to-medium in strength throughout.

Yugen or Apricity? The Dimensions decision

The two Dimensions flavors people actually choose between are opposites by design, so this is easier than it looks.

Yugen is floral, fruity and fresh, light-to-medium in strength, and built to refresh. Apricity is warm, creamy and citrus-touched with apricot notes, medium-to-strong, and built to comfort. Yugen’s aftertaste is smooth and short; Apricity’s lingers noticeably longer.

Practically: Yugen suits afternoons, social settings and warm weather, and pairs well with green tea, sparkling water or something light. Apricity suits evenings and cooler months, and pairs with dark coffee, black tea or whisky. If you’re buying one to try Dimensions for the first time and don’t know which type you are, Yugen is the safer choice because it’s gentler and works at any time of day.

The third stick in the trio, Ammil, goes somewhere else entirely: spice and herbal notes with proper menthol cooling. It’s also the rarest of the three, since it exists in no other edition we carry.

Where Dimensions sits in the range

Dimensions is the premium tier, and the UAE edition is the only range in our store that carries all three sticks. Coming from the standard UAE flavors, Yugen is a genuine change of direction rather than a step up in strength. If Amber is your daily stick, Yugen won’t feel stronger, it’ll feel different, and that’s the point of the series. If you want more intensity instead of more complexity, Teak is the answer within the standard line.

Dimensions packs are the most distinctive in the range: Yugen comes in a black, purple and pink gradient design that signals the floral character before you open it, and collectors of the series tend to keep the boxes. Getting the layers to show

Insert the stick printed-end up without twisting. Current ILUMA devices start heating automatically; older models need the button held until the first vibration, with a second vibration signalling ready. Three things specific to Yugen. Use a clean holder, because floral notes are the first casualty of residue left by a menthol or clove stick. Draw gently and slowly, since the layers separate at a relaxed pace and disappear at a fast one. And don’t follow a strong flavor with it; run Yugen first in a rotation, not after Teak or a Pearl stick.

Does Yugen contain menthol?

Not as such. It has a fresh, cooling sensation built into the finish, but it’s nothing like a menthol stick such as Turquoise. Ammil is the Dimensions flavor with proper menthol.

Is Yugen too floral for someone who normally smokes plain tobacco?

The tobacco base is more prominent in Yugen than in Apricity, so it holds up better than the description suggests. If you’ve never tried a floral flavor, buy a single pack rather than a carton and see.

Which is stronger, Yugen or Apricity?

Is this the same Yugen sold in the Indonesian edition?
