Red is the bold finish of the Elio range, and on a cleaning tool that has a practical use rather than an aesthetic one: it’s the easiest one to find.

A cleaning tool lives in a drawer, a bag pocket or a bedside tray alongside chargers, cables and everything else small and dark. A red one gets picked up first, and a tool you can find is a tool you’ll actually use on schedule.

Manual tool or electronic?

Both do the same job. The question is whether you want to do the rotation yourself.

The manual IQOS cleaning tool is what comes in every starter kit, costs less, needs no charging and has two dedicated heads for the chamber and the cap.

The Elio motorises the brushing step. It rotates at a consistent speed without the downward pressure people naturally apply by hand, which is one of the specific things the official instructions warn against. If you clean often, or if twisting a small brush in a narrow chamber is awkward for you, that’s the argument.

Neither removes the need for cleaning sticks. Brushes loosen residue; sticks lift it, and they’re the only thing that properly cleans the inside of the cap.

The routine it fits into

Cleaning is recommended after every pack of 20 sticks, and the sequence matters more than the tool.

Cool the device for at least 30 seconds. Remove the cap and tap out loose tobacco. Run the Elio in the chamber, inserted straight and without pushing down. Tap the holder and the tool. Finish with a cleaning stick in the chamber and another down the inside of the cap.

You’ll know it worked when the area around the blade looks grey or white, with no dark coating and no visible particles.

Rules that don’t change

Don’t clean the blade. Only the bottom of the heating chamber, and never push anything against the blade itself.

Never use water on the device or the tool.

Insert and withdraw straight, not at an angle.

Don’t press down while the head is turning.

Is the red version any different inside?

No. All three Elio finishes are the same tool. Red is simply the easiest to spot in a drawer.

Do I still need cleaning sticks?

Yes. The Elio handles the brushing; sticks lift the fine residue and clean the cap, which no brush reaches.

Is it better than the manual tool?

Not better at cleaning. It’s more consistent and takes less effort, which matters if you clean regularly.

Is it official IQOS hardware?

No, Elio is a third-party accessory.

Does an ILUMA need one?
