IQOS Cleaning Tool

This is the core of any blade device cleaning routine, and the tool the whole official procedure is built around.

It carries two heads, and they do different jobs. The rotating head is the longer brush, used inside the heating chamber. The sweeping head is the shorter one with the protruding pin, used on the cap and around the base of the blade. Most people who find cleaning frustrating are using one head for both jobs.

One comes in every IQOS starter kit. Plenty of owners keep a spare, either because the original wore out or because they want one at home and one at work.

How to use it properly

Cool the device first. Wait at least 30 seconds after your last stick so the blade is cool, and avoid pressing the button while you work so it doesn’t start heating.

Prepare. Remove the holder cap. Turn the holder upside down and tap gently to release loose tobacco. Take the cap off the cleaning tool and check the head isn’t bent, warped or dirty.

Rotating head. Insert it straight into the heating chamber without twisting, until it touches the bottom. Then, without pushing down, gently twist two or three times. Stop twisting and pull it straight out. Tap both the holder and the tool to shake residue loose.

Sweeping head. Take the other cap off, line the head up with the chamber and the blade, and insert it smoothly without twisting. Move it side to side to clear residue from around the base of the blade.

The cap. Insert the sweeping head until it touches the bottom of the cap, twist gently two or three times without pushing, then tap both the cap and the tool.

The rules that protect your device

Never clean the blade itself. Only the bottom of the heating chamber. The blade is ceramic and the most fragile part of the device.

Never use water on the tool or the holder. Moisture reaching the electronics is a common cause of device failure.

Never use cleaning agents, solvents, chemicals, volatiles or compressed air.

Don’t insert or remove the tool while twisting. Straight in, twist, stop, straight out.

Don’t use a toothpick or cotton bud instead. They fray, leave fibres behind and can damage the chamber. It’s the most common improvised mistake.

Cleaning the tool itself

Tap it gently on a stable surface and wipe it with a cloth. If residue remains in the bristles, a cleaning stick lifts it out.

Don’t wash it. Same rule as the device.

Replace it when the head is bent, warped, or too dirty to clean properly. A damaged tool can scratch the chamber.

Which devices this is for

Any ceramic blade device: IQOS ORIGINALS DUO, ORIGINALS ONE, IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS 3 MULTI and IQOS 2.4 Plus. The procedure is identical across all of them.

It isn’t needed for ILUMA or ILUMA i devices, which require no cleaning at all.

What are the two heads for?

How often should I use it?

After every pack of 20 sticks, which is the interval Philip Morris recommends.

Can I wash it?

No. Tap it and wipe it with a cloth instead. Water can carry moisture into the device the next time you use it.

Do I need one if I have an ILUMA?

No. ILUMA and ILUMA i devices need no cleaning at all.

When should I replace it?

When the head is bent, warped, or you can’t get it properly clean. A damaged tool risks scratching the chamber.
