LAMBDA i9 Red Device

Red is the bold finish in the Lambda i9 range, and the one people notice. Where the metallics stay restrained and black disappears entirely, this is a device that reads as chosen rather than issued.

There’s a practical side to it too. If other people around you use heated tobacco devices, the black and metallic finishes are hard to tell apart at arm’s length, and a red one is never picked up by mistake.

What sets it apart from an ILUMA

Not the heating mechanism, which is identical. Two other things.

Capacity. 3200 mAh gives up to 40 sessions per charge, roughly twice what an IQOS ILUMA i manages.

Control. An ILUMA heats every stick the same way. This runs 200 to 300°C on demand and lets you set session length between 3 and 6 minutes. If you’ve ever thought a menthol tasted harsh or Amber tasted thin, that’s a temperature problem you can now solve.

The i9 among its siblings

Three induction devices, one set of internals. The i8 is the plain version at the lowest price, assessed in our Lambda i8 review. The i9 is this one, with an OLED readout and an automatic cleaning cycle. The i10 trades the metal shell for leather-effect and sheds a few grams.

Running a session

Charge fully over USB-C before the first use. Push a TEREA stick into the chamber to the filter line, don’t twist it, start heating and wait for the ready signal.

Set your temperature and session length in the controls. Mid-range works as a default, and from there it’s simple: up for body, down for clarity and aroma.

Stick compatibility

Every TEREA edition works, along with SENTIA and other Smartcore sticks. That includes the Pearl capsule range, because the device responds to the metal element inside a stick, not to which market printed the pack.

What doesn’t work is HEETS. Without a metal element there’s nothing for induction to heat. The blade-based Lambda T3 and CC or the IQOS Originals range cover HEETS. Which TEREA to buy with it

Storage and upkeep

Keep it cool. A 3200 mAh battery in an Abu Dhabi car through July ages faster than one that lives indoors, and heat does more damage than heavy use.

Use the supplied USB-C cable, don’t smoke while it charges, and skip cleaning entirely: nothing inside ever meets tobacco.

The six finishes

Does red perform differently from the other finishes?

No. Every Lambda i9 shares the same battery, heating, temperature range and features.

Does a bold finish scuff more?

Brighter finishes show marks sooner than matte black does over long-term pocket use, though the difference is smaller on a solid colour than on a bright metallic.

Does it work with all TEREA sticks?

Yes. Compatibility comes from the induction mechanism rather than the flavor or market, so every TEREA edition works, including the Pearl capsule flavors.

How many sessions per charge?

Up to 40 from the 3200 mAh battery, roughly double what an IQOS ILUMA i delivers between charges.

Is it an official IQOS product?

No. Lambda is a third-party manufacturer, so there’s no Philip Morris warranty. Any cover comes from the retailer.

Can it heat HEETS?

No. HEETS have no metal element inside, so induction can’t heat them. The blade-based Lambda T3 and CC handle HEETS instead.

Lambda i8 or i9?

The i8 has the same battery, temperature range and compatibility for less. The i9 adds the OLED display and self-cleaning cycle.
