Obsidian Black is the finish most Prime buyers end up choosing, and for a practical reason as much as an aesthetic one. It looks right in any setting, it goes with everything, and it hides marks better than any other colour in the range. A year of pocket use shows on a metallic or a pale finish long before it shows on this one.

The aluminium holder is a deep matte black, and the pocket charger wears a leather-effect wrap in the same tone. Performance is identical to every other Prime, so the decision here is purely about the object.

What’s in the kit

Prime is a two-piece system, so the box carries more than an all-in-one device would.

Inside: the ILUMA Prime holder in Obsidian Black, the matching pocket charger with its wrap fitted, a USB-C charging cable, a power adapter, and the documentation and warranty card.

TEREA sticks are separate. The device is useless without them, so most orders include a pack or two.

There’s no cleaning kit in the box, and that’s deliberate rather than an oversight. Prime has no blade and never needs cleaning inside.

Two sticks back to back handles most situations, and the charger carries around 20 in total. One overnight charge covers a normal day.

Why black is the practical choice

Every Prime shares the same finish quality, but they don’t age the same way.

Fingerprints, dust and the small scuffs that come from sharing a pocket with keys are all more visible on light and metallic surfaces. Bronze Taupe and Gold Khaki show them soonest, Jade Green sits in between, and Obsidian Black hides them best.

There’s a second argument for it that has nothing to do with wear. Black is the only finish in the range nobody regrets. If you’re buying this as a gift, or you’re not certain what the recipient likes, it’s the safe answer. The Neon Limited Edition is the opposite proposition, made to stand out rather than to blend in, and it’s produced in a limited run rather than as a permanent line.

The wrap comes off

Worth knowing before you commit to any colour: the wrap on the pocket charger is replaceable.

It attaches with linear magnets that slide into recesses on the charger body, and it pulls off from the top down. So a black device can become something else later, and this is the only ILUMA device where that’s possible at all.

Wraps aren’t covered by the device warranty, and a damp cloth is all they need for cleaning.

Using it day to day

Charge the pocket charger fully before the first session, which takes around 135 minutes over USB-C. Hold the charger button for four seconds to switch the device on.

Take the holder out, insert a TEREA stick to the line on the filter, and wait for the vibration and the pulsing lights. Heating begins on its own, or press the button for a second to start it manually. When the lights hold steady, draw normally for up to 14 puffs or roughly six minutes, with a vibration warning you at the last 30 seconds. Remove the used stick and slide the holder back into the charger.

Autostop ends a session if the stick is moved or removed part-way, which stops you wasting half of one. A short press on the charger button shows the battery level, and a yellow blink means it’s time to charge.

If the device blinks white twice, it’s outside its 0 to 40°C operating range, which in Abu Dhabi almost always means a hot car. Let it cool before using it. Our first-time ILUMA setup guide covers everything else.

No cleaning required

Older IQOS devices heated the stick with a ceramic blade. Tobacco residue built up on it, and cleaning was a routine chore.

Prime has no blade. Smartcore induction heats a metal element sealed inside each TEREA stick using a magnetic field, so nothing in the holder touches tobacco at any point. Sticks come out whole and nothing accumulates inside. How TEREA sticks work explains the mechanism.

ILUMA One is the all-in-one entry model: lightest and cheapest, no pocket charger, no auto-start. ILUMA Standard is the two-piece system in plastic and matches Prime on performance for less. Sticks to order with it

We stock all 75 TEREA flavors across five editions. For a first device, Amber suits full-flavor cigarette smokers, Yellow suits light smokers, and Turquoise suits menthol smokers.

Edition affects price more than taste. Most customers choose the Kazakhstan range, on cost and for its five Pearl capsule flavors. Armenia is cheaper with a shorter lineup, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging at RRP. Care in the UAE

The operating range is 0 to 40°C, and a parked car here passes that easily in summer. Heat also shortens lithium battery life in general, so keep the device out of direct sun.

Use the supplied cable and adapter, don’t use it while it’s charging, and wipe the wrap with a damp cloth when it needs it. Nothing else needs doing.

Does Obsidian Black perform differently from the other colours?

No. Every Prime shares the same heating, battery, consecutive uses and charge capacity. Only the finish changes.

Does black really hide marks better?

Yes, noticeably. Fingerprints and scuffs show far less on a dark matte finish than on metallics or pale colours, which is why it’s the most popular choice for daily use.

Can I change the wrap later?

Yes. It’s held by linear magnets and pulls off from the top down, so the colour isn’t permanent. Wraps aren’t covered by the device warranty.

How many sticks before charging?

Two back to back from the holder, then a few minutes in the charger. The charger holds enough for about 20 sticks.

Are TEREA sticks included?
