The Neon Limited Edition is the ILUMA Standard built as a statement rather than a neutral object. Where the permanent range runs through blues, greens and stone tones, this one goes vivid, and it’s the only device in the ILUMA Standard lineup that isn’t designed to blend into a pocket.

The important part is the “limited” in the name. This is a limited production run, not a permanent colour. Once the run sells through, it isn’t restocked, and the device becomes something you can only find secondhand. Everything inside is standard ILUMA: same induction heating, same two sticks back to back, same charger capacity.

What limited edition actually means here

Philip Morris releases occasional limited finishes alongside the permanent ILUMA colours. They’re the same hardware in a different shell, produced in a fixed quantity and then discontinued.

Two things follow from that, and they pull in opposite directions.

If you want this specific device, waiting is a genuine risk rather than a sales line. Limited runs don’t come back, and the permanent colours will still be there next month while this one may not be.

If you’re buying your first ILUMA and simply want a device that works, that scarcity doesn’t add anything to your experience. The permanent colours perform identically and stay available, and there’s no reason to feel pressured toward this one.

Both statements are true at once. Buy it because you like how it looks, not because it’s scarce.

What’s in the kit

ILUMA Standard is a two-piece system, so the box carries more than an all-in-one device.

Inside: the ILUMA holder in the Neon finish, the matching pocket charger, a USB-C charging cable, a power adapter, and the documentation and warranty card.

TEREA sticks are sold separately, and the device does nothing without them, so most orders include a pack or two.

No cleaning kit is included, and that’s by design. ILUMA has no blade and never needs cleaning inside.

Where it sits against the permanent colours

The standard range covers five finishes, and all of them are quieter than this.

Azure Blue is the middle ground and our best seller. Moss Green is the muted option with actual colour to it. Pebble Beige and Pebble Grey are the warm and cool neutrals, with Pebble Grey the most forgiving on marks over a year of use. Sunset Red is the bold permanent colour, and the closest thing to this one if the Neon run has already sold out.

A practical note that applies to any bright finish: vivid colours show scuffs and fingerprints more than dark ones do. If you carry a device with keys and coins, the Neon will look its age sooner than Pebble Grey would.

How the two parts work together

The holder runs the session and the pocket charger refills it between sticks, which is what gets this device through a day without a wall socket.

The holder handles two sticks back to back, then needs a few minutes in the charger. By the time you want a third it’s ready. The charger carries enough for roughly 20 sticks, so an overnight charge covers most days.

That’s the difference from ILUMA One, a single unit that needs a plug once it runs down, and it’s weighed up properly in our ILUMA One vs Standard vs Prime guide.

Using it

Charge the pocket charger fully before the first session, which takes around 135 minutes over USB-C. Hold the charger button for four seconds to turn the device on.

Take the holder out, insert a TEREA stick to the line on the filter, and wait for the vibration and pulsing lights. Heating begins on its own with no button to hold. Once the lights hold steady, draw normally for up to 14 puffs or about six minutes, with a vibration at the last 30 seconds. Remove the used stick and slide the holder back into the charger.

Autostop ends a session if the stick is moved or removed part-way, so a distraction doesn’t cost you half of one. A short press on the charger button shows the battery level, and a yellow blink means it needs charging. Our first-time ILUMA setup guide covers the rest.

Nothing to clean

Older IQOS devices heated sticks with a ceramic blade that collected tobacco residue and needed cleaning regularly.

ILUMA has no blade. Smartcore induction heats a metal element sealed inside each TEREA stick using a magnetic field, so nothing inside the holder touches tobacco. Sticks come out whole and nothing accumulates. How TEREA sticks work explains the system.

It’s also why this device takes TEREA and nothing else. HEETS contain no metal element for the coil to heat, and TEREA won’t heat in an IQOS 3 Duo. Both directions are covered in HEETS in ILUMA and TEREA in IQOS 3 Duo, with every model listed in the device compatibility guide.

If you’re still choosing a device

Every ILUMA device heats identically, so the choice is shape, features and price.

ILUMA One is the all-in-one entry model, lightest and cheapest, with no pocket charger and no auto-start. ILUMA Standard is the two-piece system in plastic. ILUMA Prime matches Standard on performance and adds aluminium with a replaceable wrap, and it has its own Neon Limited Edition if you want the premium build in the same spirit. The newer ILUMA i series adds a touchscreen, Pause Mode, FlexPuff and three consecutive uses.

Our ILUMA vs ILUMA i comparison covers whether the newer generation is worth it, and Lambda vs IQOS ILUMA assesses the cheaper alternatives.

Sticks to order with it

We stock all 75 TEREA flavors across five editions. For a first device, Amber suits full-flavor cigarette smokers, Yellow suits light smokers, and Turquoise suits menthol smokers.

Edition affects price more than taste. Most customers buy the Kazakhstan range, on cost and for its five Pearl capsule flavors. Armenia is cheaper with a shorter lineup, and the official UAE edition comes in Arabic and English packaging at RRP. The gap is explained in why imported TEREA costs less, and the full catalogue is in our complete TEREA sticks range.

Care in the UAE

Heat shortens lithium battery life faster than use does, so keep both parts out of parked cars and off dashboards through the summer.

Use the supplied cable and adapter, and avoid running the holder while the charger is plugged in. Nothing else needs maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Neon edition different inside?

No. It’s a standard ILUMA with a limited-run finish. Same heating system, same battery, same two consecutive uses, same charger capacity.

Will it be restocked?

Limited editions are produced in fixed runs and aren’t reissued once they sell through. If it matters to you, the permanent colours are the ones that stay available.

Is it worth paying extra for a limited edition?

Only if you want the look. It doesn’t perform better and it isn’t a reliable investment. Buy it because you like it, not because it’s scarce.

Does the bright finish mark easily?

Vivid colours show fingerprints and scuffs more than dark ones over time. Pebble Grey is the most forgiving finish in the range if that concerns you more than the look.

Are TEREA sticks included?

No. The kit has the holder, pocket charger, cable, adapter and documentation. Sticks are ordered separately.

How many sticks before charging?

Two back to back from the holder, then a few minutes in the charger. The charger holds enough for around 20 in total.

Can it use HEETS?

No. HEETS have no metal heating element, so induction has nothing to heat. TEREA sticks only.

Is there a Neon version of ILUMA Prime too?

Yes, we stock the ILUMA Prime Neon Limited Edition as well, which is the same idea on the aluminium body with a replaceable wrap.
