Bright Menthol is the fresh, fruity end of the Japanese menthol range, and the only one built around orchard fruit rather than berries or pure cold. Crisp green apple and pear meet a clean menthol, and the result is lighter and more refreshing than anything with a Black prefix. If Black Menthol is a cold shock and Purple Menthol is a dark berry, this is the one you reach for on a hot afternoon when you want something that tastes awake.

About the flavor

Fruit leads here, which is unusual in this range. The apple and pear notes arrive first and stay bright rather than syrupy, with menthol arriving a beat later to cool them down. Tobacco sits third, light and clean, present mainly to give the stick body. Nothing in the profile is heavy, and the sweetness is the fresh kind you get from actual fruit rather than the candy sweetness of a fruit menthol built on syrup.

The aroma matches the taste, which isn’t always true of fruit menthols. It’s crisp and green, closer to cut apple than to perfume, and noticeably lighter than the berry sticks. In a small room it won’t announce itself the way Black Purple Menthol does.

Through a session, the fruit is strongest in the opening third and the menthol steadily takes over from there. By the last few draws you’re mostly tasting clean cooling with a fruit memory behind it, and the finish is short and refreshing rather than lingering. That fast, clean finish is the reason people use this one between meals or with coffee, where a heavier menthol would sit on the palate too long. Fourteen puffs, roughly six minutes.

Where it fits among the Japanese menthols

Japan carries ten menthol variants, and Bright Menthol sits in the medium-cooling, high-fruit corner. Fusion Menthol is its closest neighbour but goes floral and aromatic where this one stays fruity and crisp. Yellow Menthol is the citrus-led alternative, sharper and more lemon than orchard. For cooling above fruit, Menthol is the classic and Black Menthol is the extreme. Mint is the only stick lighter than this one overall.

How to use

Slide the stick in printed-end first, without twisting. Current ILUMA and ILUMA i devices begin heating the moment they detect it; older ILUMA models need the button held until the first vibration. The second vibration is your cue to draw. One stick gives up to 14 puffs at 0.5mg nicotine, then comes out whole for general waste.

Light fruit menthols like this one are the most sensitive in the range to what you smoked before them. A heavy Regular or a Black-prefix stick will flatten the apple note on your next session, so if you’re rotating flavors, run Bright Menthol first rather than last.

Medium. It cools cleanly but it isn’t built for intensity, and anyone chasing maximum cold should look at Black Menthol instead.

What fruit is it exactly?

Green apple and pear, crisp rather than sweet. It’s orchard fruit, not the berry direction that Purple Menthol takes or the citrus that Yellow Menthol goes for.

Is it too sweet for daily use?

Most people find the opposite. The sweetness is light and the finish is short, which is exactly why it works as an all-day flavor where richer menthols get tiring.
