Ruby Regular belongs to a category most people don’t know exists. When Philip Morris released it in Japan in 2022 as the fifteenth stick in the TEREA series, it created a fourth type alongside regular, menthol and flavored menthol: the flavored regular. Real berry character on a full tobacco base, with no cooling at all.

That last part matters, because several UAE sellers describe this stick as plain unflavored tobacco and others assume anything fruity must be a menthol. Both are wrong. Ruby Regular is a proper tobacco stick with ripe red berry running through it, and if you’ve wanted fruit in your tobacco without menthol getting involved, this is the only stick in the Japanese range that does it.

About the flavor

Tobacco leads. That’s the first thing to understand, because the name and the wine-red pack suggest a fruit stick, and it isn’t one. The blend sits close to Rich Regular, deep and aromatic, and the berry arrives as an accent on top of it rather than a replacement for it.

The fruit itself is dark and ripe: cassis and raspberry, with some Japanese reviewers reading it closer to blueberry. There’s a floral edge behind the berry that keeps it elegant rather than sweet, and nothing about it tastes like candy or syrup. Aroma is where this stick genuinely excels, and it’s rated among the most aromatic in the whole Japanese lineup.

Across a session the order is consistent: the opening draws fill with tobacco aroma and depth, the berry emerges through the middle as a gentle sweetness alongside the leaf, and the finish leaves that berry sweetness lingering with a smooth aftertaste rather than a dry one. One genuine difference from the unflavored Regular sticks is the throat hit, which is noticeably softer here. The berry sweetness rounds it off, which makes a strong stick easier to sit with for a full six minutes.

The odd effect people report, and it’s real, is that the berry makes the tobacco taste more like itself. Rather than masking the leaf, the sweetness frames it, so you notice the tobacco’s own aroma as a distinct thing instead of just background.

Where it fits, and what it isn’t

Body and intensity both sit high, closer to Rich Regular and Bold Regular than to the lighter end of the line, but smoother than either thanks to that softened throat hit. If you want the same depth with no fruit at all, Regular is the straight version. If you want berry with cooling instead, Black Purple Menthol is the menthol answer to the same idea, and it’s a completely different experience despite the shared fruit note.

The full seven-step Regular line is ranked on our TEREA Japan flavors page, and the TEREA Japan edition guide covers why the Japanese range carries flavors like this one that never reach other markets.

Outside Japan, the closest relative is Ruby Fuse from the Kazakhstan range, though Ruby Fuse adds a cooling finish that this stick deliberately avoids, and it costs less. If price is a factor before you commit to a Japanese carton, why imported TEREA costs less explains the gap.

What’s in the box

20 sticks to a pack, 200 to a carton across 10 packs, with the carton cheaper per stick. Packs are original Japan-market stock, factory-sealed, printed in Japanese with Japanese health warnings. The pack keeps the blue of the standard Regular design with a wine-red accent, which is the quickest way to spot it on a shelf.

How to use

Insert the stick printed-end up into your ILUMA holder without twisting it. Current devices begin heating on their own, while older ILUMA models need the button held until the first vibration; the second vibration means it’s ready. You get up to 14 puffs or roughly 6 minutes per stick, at 0.5mg of nicotine. Nothing burns, so the used stick pulls out whole and goes into general waste with no cleaning required, which is the practical benefit of the Smartcore system explained in how TEREA sticks work.

With aromatic sticks like this one, the first two draws carry most of the aroma, so take them slowly. Rushing the start is the most common way people miss what they paid for with Ruby Regular.

Compatibility

Runs in every induction device: IQOS ILUMA One, Standard and Prime, the ILUMA i range, and Lambda i8, i9 and i10. It cannot be used in the IQOS 3 Duo or any other blade device, and our device compatibility guide lists every model either way.

Delivery

Frequently asked questions

Does Ruby Regular contain menthol?

No. It has no cooling whatsoever, which is what separates it from every other fruit-flavored stick in the range. The berry sits on tobacco, not on menthol.

Is it a fruit stick or a tobacco stick?

A tobacco stick with fruit in it. Tobacco leads from the first puff; the berry is an accent that grows through the session. Anyone expecting a sweet fruit flavor will find it far more tobacco-forward than they assumed.

How does it compare to Rich Regular?

They share the same deep tobacco foundation. Ruby adds ripe berry and floral notes, and the sweetness softens the throat hit, so it drinks easier than Rich Regular at a similar strength.

Can I get this outside the Japanese edition?

Not under this name. Ruby Fuse in the Kazakhstan range is the closest, but it finishes with cooling that Ruby Regular doesn’t have, so they’re relatives rather than substitutes.
