TEREA Yellow Menthol Japan

Yellow Menthol is the lemon stick of the Japanese range. Strong menthol, clear citrus, and a herbal thread running underneath, all built on a light tobacco base that stays out of the way. It’s one of the most recognisable flavors in the lineup because you can identify it blind on the first draw, and it has a reputation for being the menthol that works when nothing else does.

That reputation comes from a specific quality. Because the citrus and menthol dominate so completely, the tobacco taste barely registers, and users who find plain tobacco heavy or unpleasant often land here permanently.

About the flavor

The hierarchy is citrus and menthol together at the front, herbal notes second, tobacco a distant third. The citrus reads primarily as lemon, though some tasters get orange, and it’s sharp rather than sweet. That sharpness is the flavor’s dividing line: most people find it bright and clean, while a minority find it slightly too sour for repeated sessions. Worth knowing before you buy a carton rather than a pack.

The aroma is where it earns its rating. Japanese reviewers describe the scent as citrus and herbs with an oriental character, and it carries further than most menthols in the range. It’s a pleasant smell, but it is a smell, so if you use TEREA in shared spaces this is not the discreet option. Our guide to whether TEREA sticks smell covers how that works across flavors.

Through a session, the citrus is brightest in the opening draws and the menthol builds behind it. The middle stretch is the most balanced part, where the herbal note becomes noticeable between the lemon and the cold. Toward the end the cooling takes over completely and the citrus retreats, finishing with a clean, minty aftertaste rather than a sour one. Fourteen puffs, and the body stays light throughout, which is why it works as a warm-weather and daytime stick.

The three citrus menthols in the Japanese range

Japan carries three sticks that all get described as “citrus menthol”, and stores rarely separate them. They’re genuinely different.

Yellow Menthol is lemon: sharp, clean, herbal. Bright Menthol is orchard fruit instead, apple and pear, sweeter and softer at a lower cooling level. Fusion Menthol takes the citrus in a floral, aromatic direction and is the most complex of the three rather than the most refreshing.

If you want this lemon profile with harder cooling, Black Yellow Menthol is the intensified version, where the menthol runs at maximum from first puff to last and the citrus softens in comparison. And if you want cooling with no fruit at all, Black Menthol is the clean answer. Every menthol in the range is ranked on our TEREA Japan flavors page.

From other editions, the closest relative is Green Zing in the Kazakhstan range, which shares the sharp citrus-menthol idea at a lower price. The reason those editions cost less is explained in why imported TEREA costs less.

What’s in the box

20 sticks per pack, 200 per carton in 10 packs, and the carton is always cheaper per stick. Stock is original Japan-market product, factory-sealed, with Japanese printing and health warnings and the flavor name in Latin script on the pack.

How to use

Insert the stick printed-end up into any ILUMA holder without twisting. Modern devices begin heating on their own; older ILUMA models need the button held until the first vibration, with the second vibration signalling ready. A stick gives up to 14 puffs across roughly 6 minutes at 0.5mg nicotine, and the used stick comes out whole for general waste. The full mechanism is explained in how TEREA sticks work.

Citrus flavors are the ones most affected by heat, so keep packs out of a parked car in Abu Dhabi summer. Stored warm for long enough, the lemon note flattens before the menthol does, and the stick loses the thing you bought it for.

Compatibility

Runs in every induction device: IQOS ILUMA One, Standard and Prime, the ILUMA i series, and Lambda i8, i9 and i10. Blade devices including the IQOS 3 Duo cannot heat TEREA sticks; every compatible and incompatible model is listed in our device compatibility guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is it lemon or orange?

Most people read it as lemon, and the sharpness supports that, but a fair number describe it as orange. Either way it’s a bright, zesty citrus rather than a sweet one.

Is it too sour?

For most users, no. A minority do find it sharper than they’d like over a full carton, so if you’re unsure, start with a single pack rather than committing.

Which is stronger, Yellow Menthol or Black Yellow Menthol?

Black Yellow Menthol, clearly. Its menthol runs at full strength from the first puff to the last, and the citrus feels gentler by comparison because the cold takes up more room.

Is this a good choice if I dislike the taste of tobacco?

It’s one of the better ones. The citrus and menthol are dominant enough that the tobacco base sits well back, which is why users who find plain tobacco sticks heavy tend to settle on this flavor.
