Starling Pearl is the most unusual stick in the Kazakhstan range, and the reason is a herb. Every other flavored TEREA leans on fruit, menthol or spice; this one pairs sweet strawberry with aromatic basil, which is a combination borrowed from kitchens and cocktail bars rather than from the tobacco world. Nothing else in the TEREA catalogue tastes like it.

Underneath sits a mild, rounded toasted tobacco base with woody and light tea notes, and a capsule in the filter that you click when you want the strawberry, basil and menthol to arrive. You can find it in the pink and grey pack marked with the pearl symbol.

About the flavor

Before you click, this is a genuinely good mild tobacco stick: toasted, rounded, with a gentle woody character and a light tea note running through it. That matters more than it sounds, because a Pearl stick with a weak base is just a delivery system for the capsule, and this one isn’t.

Click, and three things arrive together. Strawberry leads with a clean sweetness that stays fruity rather than turning into candy. Basil follows, aromatic and green, and it’s the note people don’t expect. Menthol runs underneath both, cooling rather than icy, holding the fruit and herb in place instead of overwhelming them.

The aroma after clicking is light and fresh rather than heavy, which is unusual for a fruit stick. Most berry flavors announce themselves; this one stays polite.

The session has a clear shape. The opening draws are tobacco with just a hint of the fruit showing through the filter. Through the middle, if you’ve clicked, the basil becomes properly noticeable and the stick reaches its most interesting point, where herb and fruit sit in balance. In the pack

20 sticks per pack, 200 per carton across 10 packs, with cartons priced lower per stick. Kazakhstan stock arrives factory-sealed in the pink and grey Starling Pearl packaging with the pearl symbol on the front, printed in Kazakh and Russian with Kazakhstan health warnings. Clicking the capsule

Insert the stick printed-end up without twisting, and let the device heat as usual. Current ILUMA models start automatically; older ones need the button held until the first vibration, with a second vibration signalling ready.

The capsule sits in the filter. Squeeze it firmly between finger and thumb until you feel and hear a small click, then draw as normal.
