Terea Riviera Pearl Indonesia

Riviera Pearl is one of the newest sticks in the Indonesian range, added in December 2025 after arriving from Japan where it had already become a best-seller. It’s a capsule stick, and it’s built differently from the rest of the Pearl family: the tobacco base is good enough to smoke on its own, so the click is a choice rather than the whole point.

Unclicked, it’s a rounded toasted tobacco with woody and light tea notes. Click the capsule and it turns into cooling raspberry and rose. Two genuinely different sessions, and you decide which one you’re having.

Two sticks in one, and you choose when

Every Pearl stick has a small capsule sitting in the filter. Squeeze it between finger and thumb until you feel it give, and the flavor inside releases into the airflow.

Where Riviera Pearl differs from most capsule sticks is that the base is not a placeholder. Some Pearls taste flat until you click them, which effectively makes the capsule mandatory. This one opens as a proper tobacco stick, so you have three real options: smoke it unclicked for a straight tobacco session, click at the start for cooling fruit throughout, or click halfway and get both in a single stick.

That last approach is the reason a lot of people buy this flavor. Six minutes of toasted tobacco, then a sharp turn into cold raspberry for the finish.

About the flavor

Before the click, the hierarchy is tobacco first, woody notes second, and a light tea character third. It’s rounded rather than bold, closer to Sienna’s territory than to anything aggressive, with no cooling at all and no sweetness. This is the half most reviewers underrate, because they click immediately and never taste it.

After the click, the order inverts completely. Cooling arrives first, then raspberry, then a floral rose note that lifts the fruit and stops it reading as candy. The tobacco doesn’t disappear; it drops to a base layer holding everything together. Philip Morris describes the burst as raspberry and floral, and the rose element is what makes it distinctive rather than just another berry menthol.

The aroma follows the same split. Unclicked, it’s quiet and tobacco-like, one of the more discreet sticks in the Indonesian range, which is unusual for a lineup dominated by clove. How it compares to the other capsule flavors

The Indonesian range carries three capsule sticks. Sun Pearl is the tropical citrus one and the easiest introduction to capsules. Oasis Pearl is creamier, with a nutty base and a fruity floral release. Riviera Pearl is the tobacco-led one, and the only one of the three where leaving the capsule alone is a legitimate way to smoke it.

The widest capsule selection sits in the TEREA Kazakhstan range, which carries five Pearls including Twilight, Tidal, Starling and Provence. Riviera’s closest relative there is Twilight Pearl, though Twilight’s dark berry is sweeter and heavier than Riviera’s raspberry-and-rose. Within the Indonesian edition itself, Riviera Pearl is the outlier. Most of that range is built on clove or on the Black line’s intensity, so this is the stick to reach for when you want neither.

Clicking the capsule

There’s a right way to do this and one thing not to do.

Hold the filter between your thumb and forefinger about a centimetre from the end, and press firmly until you feel a small give. That’s the capsule breaking. One squeeze is enough; repeated pressing does nothing more and can flatten the filter enough to restrict the draw.

Click before your first puff for a fully cooled session, or wait until the halfway mark for the two-stage experience. There’s no time limit, and a stick left unclicked to the end simply stays as tobacco.

What you should never do is try to open a stick to get at the capsule. TEREA sticks contain a metal heating element with a sharp edge, which is why Philip Morris prints a warning against disassembling or swallowing them and advises keeping them away from children. The capsule is designed to be squeezed through the filter, and that’s the only way to use it.

Heating it

Slide the stick printed-end up into the holder without twisting. Current ILUMA devices begin heating on their own; older models need the button held until the first vibration, and a second vibration means ready to draw. Do I have to click the capsule?

No, and that’s what sets this one apart. The unclicked base is a rounded toasted tobacco worth smoking on its own, so leaving the capsule intact is a real option rather than a waste of a stick.

What does the capsule release?

Can I click it halfway through?
