Oasis Pearl is a capsule stick: a small pearl sits in the filter, and you decide when to crush it. Before the click you have smooth toasted tobacco. After it, a burst of tropical fruit with a cooling finish, most often described as passionfruit. One stick, two experiences, on your timing.

Philip Morris positions it as the tropical member of the Indonesian capsule pair, and officially suggests it for anyone who already likes Yugen, Berrine or Mulint. It’s also one of the best-selling TEREA flavors in the UAE, largely because the Indonesian version costs considerably less than the Japanese one.

How the pearl works

The capsule is a sealed bead of flavour inside the filter, marked by a small icon on the outside. Squeeze the filter between finger and thumb and you’ll feel a soft click as it breaks. That’s it: the aroma releases into the airflow and stays for the rest of the stick.

It’s a one-way switch. Once crushed, it can’t be undone, so the interesting decision is when to do it rather than whether to. There’s no capsule in a standard TEREA stick, which is what separates the whole Pearl range from the rest of the catalogue.

About the flavor

Before the click, the base is smooth toasted tobacco with light Indonesian character. Mild, clean, no bitterness, and nothing that fights for attention. On its own it sits close to a light everyday tobacco stick.

After the click, tropical fruit takes over the front of the profile. Most tasters read it as passionfruit, some as a broader tropical mix, and a gentle menthol cooling arrives with it. The tobacco doesn’t disappear, it moves underneath and gives the fruit something to sit on. The cooling is refreshing rather than icy, closer to Sun Pearl’s level than to anything in the Black menthol family.

The aroma is where the Indonesian version makes its case. It’s rich and openly fruity, noticeable in a room but sweet rather than sharp. If you want something more discreet, the Japanese version is the quieter one, and we’ve covered how flavour families differ on this in our guide to whether TEREA sticks smell.

Across a session, the arc depends entirely on when you crush. Left unclicked, the stick stays a mild toasted tobacco from first puff to last. Clicked at the start, the fruit and cooling hold steady through all 14 puffs and fade slightly in the final third. Clicked halfway, you get a clear before-and-after inside one stick, which is what most people end up doing once they’ve tried both.

Indonesia or Japan? Same flavour, different tuning

We stock Oasis Pearl in both editions, and they aren’t identical.

The Indonesian version is richer and more aromatic, with a bolder fruit profile and a fuller body. The Japanese version is lighter, more subtle, and produces a cleaner, less lingering aroma, which makes it the better pick for offices and enclosed spaces.

The other difference is price. The Indonesian edition sits in our budget tier while Japan sits at premium, and the gap on a carton is substantial. That’s the main reason the Indonesian version outsells the Japanese one in the UAE. The pricing logic is explained in why imported TEREA costs less, and the full five-edition picture is in the TEREA edition comparison.

Bold and fruity, buy Indonesian. Subtle and discreet, buy Japanese.

Where it sits among the capsule flavors

Indonesia carries three Pearls. Oasis Pearl is the tropical one. Sun Pearl is the sweet green-fruit alternative, officially recommended for people who like Apricity and Golden, while Riviera Pearl is the hardest of the three to find anywhere else in the UAE.

Beyond Indonesia, Kazakhstan carries five capsule flavours, the widest range of any edition, and Japan carries two. Every capsule stick we stock is gathered on the Pearl flavors page, and the full Indonesian range including the clove Editions sits on the TEREA Indonesia page.

If tropical fruit with cooling appeals but you’d rather have it without a capsule, the clove Edition Mulint and the Dimensions stick Yugen are Philip Morris’s own suggested neighbours for this flavour. And if you normally smoke something heavy like Amber or Sienna, be aware this will feel mild by comparison; browse the full TEREA range if you want more body.

When to click

Three approaches, all valid.

Crush before the first puff and the whole stick is tropical and cool. This is the straightforward option and how most first-timers use it.

Crush at the halfway mark and you get a genuine two-act session: toasted tobacco through the opening, fruit and cooling for the finish. This is the reason to buy a capsule stick rather than a flavoured one.

Don’t crush at all and you’re left with a mild toasted tobacco stick, which is worth knowing on a day you don’t want fruit. The pack doesn’t go to waste if your mood changes.

In Abu Dhabi summer, most people click early. The cooling reads as more refreshing in humid heat, which is a large part of why this flavour sells the way it does here.

In the pack

20 sticks per pack, 200 per carton across 10 packs, with cartons cheaper per stick. Stock is original Indonesian-market product, factory-sealed, printed in Indonesian with Indonesian health warnings and the flavour name in Latin script.

Store packs somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight. Capsules are the part of a TEREA stick most affected by heat, and a pack left in a parked car can leave you with a pearl that clicks weakly or not at all.

Heating and handling

Slide the stick printed-end up into the holder without twisting; there’s no blade to align, which is why nothing needs to be screwed in. Current ILUMA devices start heating on their own, older ones want the button held until the first vibration, and a second vibration means ready. You get up to 14 puffs across roughly 6 minutes at 0.5mg nicotine, and the stick comes out whole afterwards for general waste. What’s happening inside is explained in how TEREA sticks work.

Crush the capsule with a firm pinch on the filter rather than a squeeze on the body of the stick. Pressing the wrong part won’t break the pearl and can deform the stick in the holder.

Devices

Any induction device: IQOS ILUMA One, Standard and Prime, the whole ILUMA i series, and Lambda i8, i9 and i10. Blade devices such as the IQOS 3 Duo can’t heat TEREA at all, and every model is listed in our device compatibility guide.

Frequently asked questions

What does Oasis Pearl taste like?

Smooth toasted tobacco before the capsule, tropical fruit with gentle cooling after it. Most people identify the fruit as passionfruit.

Is the Indonesian version the same as the Japanese one?

Not quite. Both follow the same tropical idea, but the Indonesian release is richer, more aromatic and bolder on fruit, while the Japanese one is lighter, subtler and less noticeable in a room. The Indonesian version also costs significantly less per carton.

Do I have to crush the capsule?

No. Left alone it stays a mild toasted tobacco stick for the full session. Crushing is a choice, not a step.

Can I crush it partway through?

Yes, and many regular users prefer it that way. You get plain tobacco through the first half and fruit with cooling through the second.

Is the cooling strong?

Moderate. It’s refreshing rather than icy, well below the level of the Black menthol flavours, which is part of why this stick works for long sessions and warm weather.

My capsule didn’t click. What happened?

Usually pressure in the wrong place: the pearl sits in the filter, not the body of the stick. Heat is the other cause, since a pack stored somewhere hot for a long time can leave a capsule that no longer breaks cleanly.
